Overview

Eighty years of skin expertise, applied to every follicle.

Laser hair removal is one of our most popular cosmetic treatments at Pariser Dermatology Specialists. The industry has matured significantly over the past two decades — today's specialized lasers safely destroy unwanted hair almost anywhere on the body.

One criterion must be met: the hair has to contain pigment. White and gray hair cannot be treated with laser; patients with non-pigmented hair are referred for electrolysis instead.

Candidates

Who benefits from laser hair removal.

Treatment areas vary between men and women — both are good candidates when pigment is present in the hair.

For men

Reduce hair on the back, chest, stomach or ears, and minimize the frequency of facial shaving. Laser also lowers the incidence of ingrown hairs.

For women

Treat the chin, upper lip, underarms, legs and bikini area — including full Brazilian removal — with consistent, long-lasting results.

Medical indications

Patients with conditions such as hidradenitis suppurativa or folliculitis may see meaningful improvement following a course of laser treatments.

How it works

Light to heat,
follicle to rest.

The device aims a concentrated beam of light at the hair follicle. Pigment in the hair absorbs that light and converts it to heat, disabling the follicle's ability to produce new growth — without damaging the surrounding skin.

For optimal results, treatments are repeated every six weeks. With each session, hair grows back softer, finer and less noticeable.

01
Cleanse
The area is cleansed; numbing gel may be applied for sensitive zones.
02
Protect
Aesthetician and patient both wear protective eyewear throughout the procedure.
03
Treat
Skin is held taut; pulses feel like a warm pinprick or a snapped rubber band.
04
Repeat
Series of 6–8 sessions, six weeks apart, for maximum reduction.
The Technology

One device doesn't fit every skin. We choose by physiology.

Both skin type and hair type — light through dark — determine which laser will be safest and most effective. Our aesthetician analyzes both before recommending a protocol.

Candela GentleMax Pro™

Versatile

Our workhorse laser combines alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths in a single device — safe, fast, and effective with high patient satisfaction across a wide range of skin types.

Alexandrite

Lighter skin

Ideal for treating dark hair on lighter skin tones. Fast pulses and efficient coverage make it well-suited to larger treatment areas.

Nd:YAG

Medium / darker skin

The gold standard for darker skin tones — reduced scatter and deeper penetration protect surrounding skin while disabling the follicle.

Diode & IPL

Targeted

Diode lasers selectively heat melanin in the follicle. Intense Pulsed Light (technically not a laser) can also be used for select cases.

Your visit

From the week before to the week after.

Before

Preparing for your treatment

  • Do not pluck, tweeze, wax or use chemical depilatories (such as Nair®) for one month prior.
  • Shave the treatment area the day before — not the day of. Some visible hair is required for the device to work.
  • Avoid suntans before your appointment, and wear sunscreen whenever outdoors.
  • For facial treatments, stop retinol and skin-lightening agents the week before.
During

What to expect in the room

  • The area is cleansed; numbing gel takes roughly 30 minutes if used.
  • Both aesthetician and patient wear protective eyewear throughout.
  • Skin is held taut; pulses feel like a warm pinprick or a snapped rubber band.
  • Duration depends on area — minutes for the upper lip, an hour-plus for backs or legs.
After

Caring for treated skin

  • Avoid working out, sweating or overheating for a few days.
  • Stay out of the sun for a week — or wear SPF 30+ and protective clothing.
  • Skip hot tubs, jacuzzis and saunas for several days post-treatment.
  • Expect tenderness initially; most treated hair sheds soon after.

Most patients reach maximum results with 6–8 treatments scheduled six weeks apart. Your aesthetician will tailor the plan to your skin and hair type at your consultation.
